Here’s the Scoop

My husband and I are in Michigan for the holidays. Here are a few highlights so far:

1. I fell down and broke my butt! Well, to be fair, it’s probably not broken. Just bruised and sore. It happened because I had the misguided perception that I enjoyed cross-country skiing. Warning: If you have only ever done this successfully a few times, don’t take a year off and then start off an a steep, icy hill. Especially if you are no good at downhill skiing (see below).

2. I went snowmobiling! While this isn’t really something I was super-excited about beforehand, it was fun enough, even after the ten year-old with me declared I was too slow and too chicken to take on hills (When I explained that where I grew up we never had snow and therefore no use for snowmobiles, she gave me the stinkeye because she thought I was lying.)

When our host asked if I knew what I was doing, I told him the only time that I had been on one was in June and I destroyed in a cousin’s yard in the process. The truth is, there was one other time: it was when my friends “taught” me to ski and I had to be rescued by a ranger on a snowmobile (see linked post above). That didn’t seem worth mentioning. Snowmobiling was fun enough, though it didn’t feel good on my broken butt.

3. We saw pretty lights! So , in San Jose, there’s this ghetto light display downtown that everyone goes to see even though it sucks. I wanted to see something equivalent, and found it in Grand Rapids. It’s a ballpark that they light up with ridiculousness, and you sit in your car and drive through. It’s amazingly tacky and hilarious.

I mean, check this out!

And this here is the Blair Witch Project of Christmas videos, but it was intended to be Wayne capturing the display of SANTA BOWLING while he was driving. The best of the video, though, is the last five seconds, in which the worst Christmas song EVA comes on the radio and totally makes my night.
