This Week in God
Previously on America’s Next Top Model, Tyra, the self-proclaimed the Goddess of Fierce, invited a street preacher named London to be on the show. I could tell you all about the moment, but I wouldn’t be doing it justice.
I have to admit. So far, London seems…kind of cool. She volunteered to sleep on the floor when there weren’t enough beds to go around, she doesn’t seem to believe that Jesus wants her to win a $100,000 contract with Cover Girl Cosmetics, and she’s pretty relatable–no strange prairie dresses or anything. But how much do you want to bet they’re going to throw a nude photo shoot her way just to see how she’ll handle it? Yeah, a million bucks sounds about right.
Speaking of greenbacks, MSNBC is hosting an Internet poll asking the question: Should ‘In God We Trust” be removed from our money? I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me here, but I kind of think it’s a weird place for God’s name. Aside from toilet seats, there’s nothing that seems less holy to me than money. Plus, um, there’s the whole ‘Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s’ thing.
Also is Christianity slowly going the way of the buffalo? Trinity College released a new survey (what, you didn’t think we could get through a whole This Week in God without at least one survey, did you?) that revealed 75% of Americans call themselves Christians, down from a whopping 86% in 1990. The survey also showed that there are more evangelical Christians than ever before and the number of people who claim no affiliation whatsoever has risen too. Meanwhile the poor Lutherans and Episcopalians lost the most members. Don’t worry, Anglicans! You gained little ole me since 1990. That’s got to count for something right? (Crickets chirping, crickets chirping)
And the HBO show Big Love is in hot holy water with the Mormon church once again–this time for featuring a sacred rite on their show. The episode will air this Sunday and from what I can make out from this article, it shows…how you get excommunicated. Do we have any Mormons who can weigh in? I’m not sure excommunication is the right word.
Keep your noses clean!

London is my favorite! I don’t think she has a chance of winning at all, but she definitely is the coolest girl in the house. She sounds like an inspiration for your next book
London was actually my favorite in the first episode, but I just don’t see her going that far…and I hate the makeover they gave her! Her hair was cute the way it was!
I totally agree with the previous two comments. My friend and I always “pick a pony” on ANTM and since we both love London, she’s middle ground and we each picked another. I’m not sure she’s going to WIN (they were saying some nonsense about her hips being disproportionate to the rest of her body) but she has some awesome potential to show everyone a genuine Christian. Love her.
I think money is a GREAT place for “In God We Trust” to be! What other area do we need to be reminded MORE to trust God in than money?
Well, one could argue that one should have more trust in God about matters of faith than of money, and that really, when it comes to our money, In The Federal Reserve We Trust. But that’s just not as pithy.
In keeping In God We Trust on our cash reminds us, I think, to abstain from making cash our God. My wife Kelly once painted a cross on her checkbook and on her alarm clock so she would be always reminded that her money and her time belonged to God — and that each should be spent according to that view.
Oh, Jason! I love that! Kelly is a wise woman indeed.
I agree. London is pretty cool. My sister kind of got me into this season but I missed this episode though. My two favs are Fo and Thalia.
